Since Umran Mallik made his IPL debut on Sunday, people can be seen visiting his father near Shaheedi Chowk in Jammu where he sells vegetables. People were even seen distributing sweets to celebrate the young cricketer’s feat.
“My son got inclined to cricket when he was just 3 years old. He always dreamt of becoming a professional cricketer. We were so happy when he was picked up in the playing XI by Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. We were glued to TV and there were tears of joy in my and my wife’s eyes. My son has worked very hard. We always supported him. We hope that one day he plays for Team India,” said Abdul Malik, the speedster’s proud father while speaking to India Today.
The joy of Umran’s parents knows no bounds these days. His father Abdul Mallik who is a vegetable & fruit vendor got very emotional while speaking to India Today.
Bowling the fastest delivery of the ongoing season recorded at 153 kmph, the 21-year old not only scalped an important wicket against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Srikar Bharat but also proved that he could bowl these lightening-fast deliveries at a consistent rate as he went over the 150kmph mark over six times in just one match.
Umran Malik comes from a very humble background. His father, Abdul Malik is a vegetable seller by profession and recently opened up on the hardships that the family encountered in order to fulfill Umran’s dream.
It is not an ordinary achievement for us. We are from a poor family. I sell vegetables and fruits to make a living. My son has made me proud. Our joy knows no bounds.
Umran Malik rose from poverty to become a star
Umran Malik made his debut in IPL for the first time and has played only three matches but even after that he has become a well known face in India. Malik is still new to cricket and hasn’t played much cricket.
Therefore, it cannot be fully estimated about his net worth. But his father barely feeds himself. He has seen his childhood in poverty because his father runs his house by selling fruits and vegetables. While playing in IPL, he has got 1000000 rupees now, so he is definitely the owner of lakhs.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has asked young pacer Umran Malik to join the Team India bubble for the T20 World Cup as a net bowler.
