What a twist of tales it has been for two of the best Indian test batsmen in the England series so far. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane went full circle when the former saved Rahane by taking an exceptional DRS Review that overturned the Umpire’s original decision by whiskers. For the unknown, Ajinkya Rahane had done something similar for Virat Kohli in the last test match.
On the penultimate day of the third Test, Virat Kohli was ruled out by the umpire after being caught behind by the England keeper. Virat Kohli had started to walk away when Ajinkya Rahane stopped him quickly and went upstairs for a review. It was the right decision as the review showed that the ball had not even touched Virat’s bat. Virat Kohli thus got a lifeline because of a wise review by Ajinkya Rahane. Unfortunately it did no good as the Indian batting line fell soon afterwards leading to England tying the series 1-1.
Virat Kohli returned the favour in the fourth test by doing exactly what Rahane had done for him in the third test. On the first day of the fourth test, the umpire ruled Ajinkya Rahane out when a terrific delivery from Chris Woakes hit his pad. However, Virat Kohli thought that the impact was too high on the pad and that it was missing the wickets. He thus went upstairs for a review. To everyone’s surprise, Virat Kohli’s assumption was totally right and the ball had hit the pad too high above. The umpire had to overturn his decision to not out.
It was also a terrific achievement for Virat Kohli as he generally infamous for getting reviews wrong. Not this time though.
